Its Monday! What are you Reading (19th March)

19 Mar

Its Monday! What are you Reading? is a weekly meme held over on Book Journey. Its a great place for book lovers to discuss their week in reading.

Books Read

I read one book in the last week, Witchfinder: Dawn of the Demontide by William Hussey. This was a book that i won in a competition and although its not my usual genre i really enjoyed it. It is also part of a series, so i cant wait to get my hands on the next.

Reading Now

In book form I’m currently reading One Child by Torey Hayden. This is one of those real life books that tells the story of a teacher in a unit for children with very serious difficulties. I think this book is going to be more upsetting as it goes on.

In kindle form I’m currently still reading The Rise of April (Pirates of the Savannah #3) by Tarrin P Lupo. Unfortunatly I’m not enjoying this as much now. Its gone a little but to romancy for my liking and I would like it to be a bit more pirate orientated, but that is just personal taste.

Reading Next

Next of my huge TBR pile is Strike Back by Chris Ryan. I do enjoy books of this genre, but this author is new to me. I cant wait to get started on it.

Synopsis –

Two Soldiers. Sir Peregrine Collinson. Britain’s most decorated military hero. A best-selling author. And the Prime Minister’s personal envoy. And John Porter – seventeen years ago, he was one of the SAS’s most promising young soldiers. Now he’s a broken man: a drunken tramp living rough on the streets of London.

In Beirut, a brilliant young Sky TV reporter Katie Dartmouth has been captured by a ruthless gang of Hezbollah terrorists. She is to be executed live on television unless British troops are withdrawn from Iraq. A nation holds its breath and the Government is tottering on the edge of collapse. Both men believe they can save her. But only one of them can reach her.

Their paths last crossed seventeen years earlier. Now they are about to face each other again. And the strike back is about to begin.

Books Brought

I brought one book last week Austenland by Shannon Hale.

SynopsisJane Hayes is a seemingly normal young New Yorker, but she has a secret. Her obsession with Mr. Darcy, as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, is ruining her love life: no real man can compare. But when a wealthy relative bequeaths her a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane’s fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become realer than she ever could have imagined.

Decked out in empire-waist gowns, Jane struggles to master Regency etiquette and flirts with gardeners and gentlemen–or maybe even, she suspects, with the actors who are playing them. It’s all a game, Jane knows. And yet the longer she stays, the more her insecurities seem to fall away, and the more she wonders: Is she about to kick the Austen obsession for good, or could all her dreams actually culminate in a Mr. Darcy of her own?

Yep! She has the Books of Bayern series, which starts with a retelling of the fairytale The Goose Girl and then has three original books. I think Princess Academy might actually be middle-grade. And it wasn’t a series, but she is writing a second book now.
