It’s Monday What Are You Reading? (on Tuesday)

2 Aug

Right, firstly i am aware that it is in fact Tuesday, but because i love taking part in this meme so much I’m writing it today 🙂

Books Read – I read two books thing week *does happy dance* The first was The Other Womans Shoes, by Adele Parks. I didnt really mind this book but it was very chick lit and fluffy, and to be honest by the end of it it would not be something i would read again! The second book i read this week was Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi. This book was absolutly amazing! I will be posting a review on it tonight, but it was brilliant! Such a good book for this months reading circle!

Reading – Practically Perfect by Katie Fforde to continue my assault on the chick lit pile! I have heard that her books are good so I’m quite optimistic about this one, only a few pages into it so i wont be passing to much judgement on it just yet!

Next up – Forbidden Places by Penny Vincenzi. I loved the last Penny Vincenzi book i brought so quite looking forward to this one even though its quite a thick book!

Books Brought – I brought four books in the last week, extending my to be read pile to 111! i am getting quite daunted by it all! So my new books are,

David Gibbens – The Mask of Troy – the cover discribes this as a cross between Dan Brown and Indiana Jones, and it sounds very exciting!

Kazuo Ishiguro – Never Let Me Go – this is a book that ive wanted for a long time and I’m very excited to have this now!

SGT Dan Mills – Sniper One – this is my boyfriends favourite book of all time and i wanted my own copy to read as i didnt want to accidentally damage his copy.

Various – The Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance – i got this as it contains 24 short stories by different authors and as i was in the mood to try something different i decided that i would have a go at this and see if i could find myself some new authors to try!

Not a bad reading week for me, just a shame the begining of this one has been so busy that I’ve had no time for reading yet 😦 that WILL change tonight 🙂

happy reading week to everyone 🙂

The Hobbit – JRR Tolkein,i had never read this before and i loved it! definatly a keeper!

What do you think you’ll read next?

30 Days of Books – Day 01

6 Feb

Day 01 – Best book you read last year

This is actually really difficult as its between two books and i just cant pick between the two!

The first is To Kill A Mockingbird – Harper Lee. I read this as part of the Rory Gilmore Challenge and i really really loved it. I had heard good things about and decided to give it a go. In the end, i could not put this down and really really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

The second is Memoirs of a Geisha – Arthur Golding. This was a book that i thought i wouldnt like and totally shyed away from it. In the end i picked it up and loved it. It was fantastic. I got totally hooked in by the culture and everything in the book. Another book to read if you havent already!

WWW Wednesdays (26th Jan 2011)

26 Jan

WWW Wednesdays is a weekly meme held over on Should Be Reading. To play along just answer the following questions 😀

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading Four Play by Fiona Walker. I’ve actually been reading this for a week, my reading mojo having gone a bit AWOL 😦 I’m enjoying this book a bit more now, to start with the amount of characters in it was overwhelming and i still cannot understand how some of them fit in with each other. Hopefully i will get this finished in the next couple of days.

What did you recently finish reading?

Only the one book in a week 😦 This was Isobel’s Wedding By Sheila O’Flanagan. I really did not like this book. For me the ending really really ruined it. It seemed to against everything Isobel wanted in the book and was justifying. Unfortunatly i think this book has contributed to my loss of mojo.

What do you think you will read next?

The next book I’m going to read is Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. This is for the February reading Circle over on the Book Club Forum which ive wanted to take part in for a while and its also on some of my reading challenge lists.

Musing Mondays 17th Jan

17 Jan

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme held over on Should be Reading. To play along just answer the following question.

Do you prefer deep, intellectual, “meaty” books… or light, “fluffy” books? Why? Give us an example of your preferred type of book?

if you had asked me this a year ago i would have said ‘chick lit’. i was really into it and went mad buying lots of chick lit. For example books from Jill Mansell, Jodi Picoult, Shelia O Flanngan, Cecelia Ahern etc. Because i liked this type of book i went out and brought loads of them, hence the ammount of them on my shelf.

However now im getting quite sick of them because alot of them are quite samey, so i have been buying more books that i think will challenge me, for example To Kill A Mockingbird, which i absolutly loved!

At the start of the year all i have read is chick lit. I am trying to get through as many as i can so i can move onto some books that can really challenge me.

Its Monday What are you Reading?

17 Jan

Its Monday What are you Reading? is a weekly meme held over on Book Journey.

Last week i finished two books, 31 Dream Street – Lisa Jewell and More to Life Than This – Jill Mansell. Both were enjoyable and i reveiwed both.

I have been looking at reading challenges again but thankfully i haven’t signed up to anymore, i think ive got more than enough to be getting on with!

I am currently reading Isobels Wedding – Shelia O’Flannagan and I really got into this last night.  I was up until halfpast one in the morning because i got so hooked! I’m not sure if i will finish this this week because it is quite a long book, but if i do i’ll probably start Four Play by Fiona Walker.

I have also started my first ever ebook on my ipod touch. I’m reading The Secret Garden, something i read many years ago but im finding it difficult to read this time. I think its because im not used to reading ebooks. I think paper books will still be the way forward for me for a long time!
